IA (Information Architecture)
Information Architecture?? What is that!? how does that relate to the web?
Almost sounds misleading in the name, but ill try and sum it up for you.
What Information architecture represents is what can you visually see within a web site. what really stands out, what focuses your mind to objects laid out in a web site these things can include; Colors text, images, labels, videos, what really draws your attention or just the site design in general. There are other factors that apply to the information architecture, such as mouse overs (over main menu choices), pull down menus, maybe a searching option and much much more.
Here is the more detailed definition of IA:
A structural design of shared information and environments, this focuses on organizing and labeling websites, intranets, online communities and software to support usability and find-ability. Main idea is to help users find information and complete tasks, IA is used to relate items to each other in a system.
That about sums it all up right?
There are a few systems in AI that structure a website, these can possibly be used as guidelines when developing your own web page for a business or just whatever….
The whole idea of AI relates to the users experience with the content displayed on the web page and how the context of the site is presented and understood by the user.
There are organisation systems, these systems present the site to us in a variety of ways such as content categories, menus, widgets etc.
Help guide users through the site, by using a navigation bar, drop down lists search functions, directory.
Describe categories, options, links that are useful for users to access.
Web 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0!
Why are there so many webs? they are just layers on top of layers in a way. from 1 to 5 they are layers, then from my point of view 4 and five are just like an extension. Let me try and break it down.
Internet before 1999 was known as “Read-Only” web. The average internet user’s role was very limited to only reading information that was presented. Basically web 1.0 is an example of millions of static sites which cant really be changed or altered in any way.
Refers to the second generation of the web a read\write web, where user centered applications and services are used to promote ‘social contentedness’, media and information sharing, user-created content and collaboration among individuals and organizations. Now even non-technical users can use this and easily contribute and interact with other users. This is where it starts getting better.
Characteristics of web 2.0: Flexibility, Simplicity, Lightweight
The Semantic web and web 3.0:
Web 3.0 and the semantic web relate very closely (the same thing really)
The vision of the semantic web is that online content that can be processed automatically by computers. (semantics) of information and services on the web is defined, making it possible for the web to understand and satisfy the requests of people and machines to the use of web content. A computer program can learn enough about the data in order to process it. The semantic web provides a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community backgrounds. There is a term for web 3.0 too which is read\write and execute it is the third decade of the web with wide use of key technologies, specifications used for conceptual description or modelling of information implemented in web resources. It is a different way of building applications. Applications are pieced together and are relatively small, the data is on a cloud and can run on any device, very fast and customizable also distributed through social networks, media, email, etc. Applications that are used will make the generated web 2.0 content to be personalized and managed more efficiently.
Web 4.0 is the mobile web:
The next step is not really a new version as i said just an extension, but is a alternate version of what we already have. Web needed to be used on mobile devices. Web 4.0 connects all devices in the real and virtual world in real-time.
Still in the making! Web 5.0 will be about the (emotional) interaction between humans and computers, sounds very strange right? Its getting to the point where the interaction between users and computers are a daily habit and this will be based on nanotechnologies. Users will interact with content that interacts with their emotions by listening to music or facial recognition as an example. If you have any thoughts about this, do not be afraid to make a comment.
